OSU at PSU women’s soccer

This afternoon’s soccer game started out dreary, and led to a steady rain.  The game must go on despite the elements and Penn State battled to a 4-2 win over Ohio State.   Since I can’t have an umbrella on the side lines I took to the stands hiding under my polka dotted umbrella to create some images that created a great clean green background.  In recent weeks I hadn’t taken time to go to the stands for a different angle, and so I was glad for the rain excuse to do so.

Penn State 2013 Homecoming

Penn State homecoming is always a big deal.  Alumni from all over the world, with the most recent graduation years to the ones from well before I was born flood to town. Even better this years game was against one the Nittany Lions biggest Big Ten foes, Michigan at night, with an all stadium white out.

After covering the action of last nights hockey game I switched rolls with fellow photographer to be the features photographer and videographer for the day.

I covered the always rambunctious student section, even venturing into the crowd during the second quarter, the alumni blue band, and hiked to the highest point of the north endzone.

After several overtimes Penn State got the win over the wolverines.  Check out centredaily.com for videos and more coverage of the game.

Pegula Ice Arena Grand Opening

The excitement for the Pegula Ice Arena has been growing for months. Actually it’s been growing since before they broke ground on the state of the art facility to house Penn State men’s and women’s division 1 hockey.  Today was the peak of the excitement, with the sold out men’s hockey opener and first event ever in the arena.

Two of us covered the game tonight to make sure we captured the night in the best way possible.  My job was to cover the game action which was fun to do in a well lit arena, with photography holes, a huge improvement from Greenberg Ice Pavilion.

Central PA got the thrill of hometown hockey with a 4-1 win over Army.

Fall Away Weekends

Every fall I have a similar post, Saturday afternoons in State College when the Penn State football team plays an away game. Everyone thinks it’s quiet weekends, but town bursts to life with other events.

I started my day at the Great Insect Fair in the Bryce Jordan Center where thousands of multi-leg critters were on display.  From there I headed to a soccer game with unusual high temperatures for October. And to end my day I was back downtown for the Fall Festival that filled the streets with a plein air painting competition, fun activities for the children, and a baked goods competition.  Insect3Insect4Insect7
