Sandusky Sentencing

This morning I was back at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte for the next chapter of the Jerry Sandusky case.  The trial in June found Sandusky guilty of 45 charges stemming from child sexual abuse of multiple victims.  Today was the sentencing for the former Penn State defensive coordinator.

As I pulled up to the courthouse the news trucks were humming as live broadcasts were scattered throughout the front lawn.  In the back dozens of photographers and videographers crowded along the barriors.

As all the attorney’s and Sandusky himself arrived I did video.  It was amazing to hear the amount of shutter clicks as he got out of the car and walked in.  To watch and listen you can view the video on the Centre Daily Times website.

Once Sandusky was sentenced to 30-60 years behind bars we took our posts waiting for him to walk out.  This time I had the video camera set up on a tripod so was able to capture a few photos too.

After Sandusky was taken back to the county jail the defense and prosecution talked to the media outside of the courthouse.

Till the next piece of the scandal hopefully no early mornings at the courthouse.

Sandusky Trial Verdict

As dinner passed on the second day of deliberations for the jury for the Jerry Sandusky trial all the photographers were getting skeptical.  We’d been sitting around behind the courthouse waiting for any action to occur.  Finally we heard the verdict was in and Sandusky was on his way to the courthouse.

We all scrambled to our places and tested our lights now that the sun had gone down.  Sandusky arrived, and walked into the building holding hands with his wife, Dottie.  Then we patiently waited.  Within half an hour someone yelled as they saw movement from inside the building and Sandusky came out in cuffs after being found guilty on 45 counts of sexual abuse.

After Sandusky left with the Centre County Sheriff I ran down the hill to the front of the courthouse where a large crowd had gathered.  Sandusky’s attorney, Amendola, came out from the courthouse to address the crowd.

Following Amendola the prosecution team and the Attorney General spoke to the crowd and media about the trial and the investigation.

It was a hectic and late night as I rushed back to the office to edit everything and get images to our website and to the wire.

With the trial completed some questions are answered, but there is still much more to be discovered and to happen in the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal.
